The main goal of the research is to investigate programming, organizing, coordinating and relationship, controlling and assessing the department of the medical facilities, determining the amount of work for the medical facilities in curing and recognition, education of medicine, and determining the density of medical devices in different wards of the hospitals according to the standard of the manufacturer countries. The research methodology is descriptive and the research community is composed of all the medical facilities of with the average life expectancy of more than 5 years in three hospitals affiliated to the Republic Foundation of Martyrs and Veteran’s Affairs of Tehran: Hazrat Zainab, Mostafa Khomeini, and Khata Al Anbia hospital in 1999. The means of collecting data is questionnaire.
1.The results show that none of the plans of the Medical Engineering Department was fulfilled completely. These schedules were fulfilled at their best in half of the hospitals investigated in general issues regarding the medical devices, contracts that were signed to keep the expensive devices annually, and existence of the compiled instructions in the engineering department.
2.In 2 / 3 of the hospitals the devices are kept by the engineering department.
3.Only half of the hospitals coordinate and cooperate with the other hospitals to use their devices.
4.Assessing and controlling the services provided by the engineering department are conducted in 2 / 3 of the hospitals; annual assessment is done only in % 6. 16 of the hospitals.
5.Medical engineering department has no role in compiling and expenditure of the budgets, in the committee of purchase or in preparing the instruction to buy whole sale or separate medical devices, as well.
6.These devices are mostly used in curing centers (% 5 to % 60) and in recognition departments (% 78. 32); they are used in the least in educational and research departments.
7.The highest number of the devices is in the wards of surgery and laboratory and the least is related to the wards of cord surgery, general surgery, women, psychic, mind and nerve.
8.These devices are largely made by Germany, Japan and Iran; the devices tht are made by the Russia, Finland and Swiss.
9.From the point of view idealistic performance, less than half of the devices are safe, % 68. 7 of the devices are active but repairable and % 15. 5 of the devices are defect.
10.% 20. 66 of the medical devices are located in a good place. The longest life expectancy of these devices is 10 _ 20 years.
11.% 27. 69 of the medical devices are without technical documents and more than half of them (% 60. 55) are not standard according to the international standards.
12.% 41. 38 of the medical devices have been used for educational purposes but % 78. 36 of them have less than the average percentage for educational purposes.
13.There were educational classes at intervals for more than % 31. 7 of the devices but there was no need for such classes for % 31. 34 of the devices. Most of the educational classes were taught by the supervisor of the ward (% 44. 39).
14.There is no professional user (specified user) for about % 84 of the devices.
15.These devices are used more than their capabilities per a day i. e. they are used % 08. 19 more than what they are expected to do. And % 49. 94 of the devices are not able to provide services required by the patients.
16.The most important obstacle in the way of using these devices is that these devices are too delicate (% 50. 31) and the least important one was lack of the procurement of the required devices (% 99. 9).
17.Only about % 47. 72 of the capacities of the devices are made use of.
18.% 6. 77 of the devices have had technical problems since the time they were installed. Most of the medical devices need to be repaired periodically (% 75. 52). The contracts to keep these devices are viable only to % 05. 2 of the available devices in Khatam Al Anbia hospital and the other two hospitals do not have such contracts. The greatest amounts of the damages refer to the electronic part of the devices.
19.It is possible to achieve the name, address and telephone number of the manufacturer only for % 47. 30 of the medical devices and this information for the other devices (% 91. 11) are inferred from the stickers on the devices.
20.It takes two or three days after announcing the damage to the manufacturer that the devices are repaired and the highest satisfaction with the repair services provided by these service givers is % 3. 61 more than the average. About % 88. 76 of the providers of the services have places to keep and repair these devices.
21.About control, assessment and immunity (% 99. 9) of the devices have check lists when the shifts change. The highest amount of control and assessment of the devices at intervals according to the standards is % 6. 41 and at most % 31. 81 of the devices are immune for both the patients and the
users.
